NYRB's Rojas Called To Venezuelan Nat'l Team

New York Red Bulls midfielder Jorge Rojas has been called up to the Venezuelan National Team for their 2010 World Cup Qualifying Matches against Peru in Lima, Peru and Paraguay in Asuncion, Paraguay, on Sept. 6 and Sept. 9, respectively. As a result, the Venezuelan National Team captain will be unavailable for selection for the Red Bulls’ Sept. 6 match against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park at 8:30 PM ET (TV: FSC, Radio: WADO 1280 AM).
After signing with New York on July 17, 2008, the former Caracas FC player made his Red Bulls and MLS debut on July 19 against the Los Angeles Galaxy, notching two assists. Rojas has made five appearances and four starts for New York this season and is tied for the team lead in assists with four. Rojas has earned 85 caps for Venezuela, scoring three goals. Venezuela is currently 2-3-1 in World Cup Qualifying, currently in seventh in the 10-team group.
