“El Tri” returns to the Phoenix area for the first time since February 7, 2007 when it fell to the United States national team by a score of 2-0.  Mexico and Ecuador last met on July 1, 2007 at the Copa America in Maturín, Venezuela in a match that ended with a 2-0 victory for Mexico.  The last time the two teams played on American soil, Mexico defeated Ecuador 4-2 on March 28, 2007 in Oakland, Calif.

After defeating the Canadian National Team 2-1 on September 10, Mexico leads Group 2 with nine points in CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying. Mexico will face Jamaica in Kingston on October 11 before traveling to face Canada three days later.

Following the 8th round of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying, Ecuador is in seventh place in the South American standings with a record of 2-3-4.  “La Tricolor” will face Chile in Quito and Venezuela in Puerto La Cruz on October 12 and 15 respectively, as part of the next rounds of qualifying.

The fifth annual U.S. Tour of the Mexican National Team kicked off on April 16 at Seattle’s Qwest Field against China with a 1-0 win for Mexico.  On June 4, Mexico was defeated 4-1 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium by a full-strength Argentina side in front of a sold out crowd. Four days later on June 8, Mexico visited Chicago’s Soldier Field and rebounded with a 4-0 win over Peru.   On September 24, Mexico was defeated 1-0 by Chile in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Returning for the Mexican National Team’s 2008 U.S. Tour are the following sponsors: adidas, Allstate, Bud Light, Chase, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Jose Cuervo, Makita, McDonald’s, NAPA, The Home Depot and VISA. The tour sponsors will again make the national team’s matches an all-day event with their participation in Fútbol Fiesta, an interactive zone that spans more than 100,000 square feet at every game and includes live music, games, celebrities and thousands of promotional items.
