The 2015 MLS season was one of renewed identity for Columbus Crew SC. Fueled by the passionate support of their fans, Crew SC won the East and hosted the 2015 MLS Cup Final against Portland. The charter club and defending Eastern Conference champion enter 2016 with a new secondary jersey from adidas that further strengthens the bond between club and city. Crew SC’s “For Columbus” kit was unveiled at City Hall in downtown Columbus on Wednesday.
This jersey comes in the colors of Columbus’ city flag: white, yellow, light blue and red. The crew neck collar and matching sleeve cuffs are in light blue and red trim. The MLS logos on the sleeves are red and white. Moving away from sleeves, adidas three-stripe piping on the sides are red. The front of the jersey has yellow vertical stripes, with thicker strokes in the middle.
The jersey’s inner collar has seventeen golden stars over a light blue neckstripe, referencing to the number of stars that appear on the city flag and for the state of Ohio being the 17th State to join the Union. The back-neck inset has a black Columbus Crew wordmark.
A single silver star is placed atop Crew SC’s crest on the chest, signifying a previous MLS Cup championship. The badge’s reverse side has a monochrome black seal of the city of Columbus, OH.
The jocktag at the bottom of the shirt has the inspiration for the “For Columbus” kit, the city flag.
The kit is completed with light blue shorts with red trim and white socks with light blue topstripe and red adidas three-stripe trim. Barbasol once again serves as shirt sponsor for Columbus.
Columbus Crew SC’s 2016 Away Jersey will be available soon at World Soccer Shop.
