Columbus Crew SC, one of the ten original Major League Soccer clubs, underwent a major rebranding last October. With a new badge, renewed vision and Soccer Club added to the team’s full name, Crew SC’s brand evolution has, of course, extended to its’ kits for this coming season. Now in its twentieth year of existence, Columbus will be looking for their second MLS Cup with this new look, released Wednesday.
The home kit for Columbus Crew SC features the traditional yellow and black. The collar is a basic black crew neck with a yellow stripe at the top. The neckline features a checkerboard pattern, with the updated wordmark at the back of the shirt, under the collar. Adidas’ signature three-stripes appear on both sleeves, darting down to the shoulders. As part of the new MLS’ own rebranding, the shield badge is stylized in their team colors of yellow and black, with white taking up the bottom half of the emblem. The sleeve cuffs are yellow and black, with the pattern also present on the hem of the shirt. A faint checkerboard pattern is on the jersey’s chest. Yellow shorts and socks with black adidas stripes complete the look.
Crew SC’s change shirt, coming in black and yellow, also has a checkerboard pattern used from the new crest. Many of the same features from the home kit are present in the secondary kit, in inverted colors. Yellow and black trim are seen on the collar, sleeve cuffs and hem on the shirt. The faint checkerboard pattern is present on the jersey’s chest, with black and a lighter shade. Black shorts and socks with yellow adidas trim fills in the rest of Columbus’ away kit. Barbasol returns as the shirt sponsor for Crew SC.
