The countdown to Major League Soccer’s opening round of fixtures continues, as the latest jersey launch comes from Colorado. A charter club in MLS, the Rapids’ newest primary jersey from league-wide kit sponsor adidas is a simple and solid look for a club that went through a couple of colorful identities in its history.
The Rapids’ 2016 home jersey is in the current colors of burgundy, light blue and white. The collar at the top is a standard v-neck collar in burgundy. The sleeves are in a contrasting white from the burgundy, retaining a similar look from their previous home jersey. The cuffs at the end of the sleeves have a two-tone burgundy and light blue stripe. The three-stripe trim normally on the sleeves are placed under the arms now as piping, with light blue stripes coming from the underarms to the hem.
Inside the shirt, the necktape at the inner collar has a light blue stripe with “Colorado For Life.” in burgundy text.
The backneck area has a light blue and white stripe with a burgundy 5280, indicating the elevation of the Mile High City, Denver, on the white half of the inset.
The badge has a single star above it, for their 2010 MLS Cup championship. Also, upon closer inspection, subtle design can be seen on the jersey, with horizontal stripes in a delicate tonal fabric pattern.
The jocktag has the Colorado state flag at the bottom of the jersey. The life insurance company Transamerica returns for their first full season as shirt sponsor.
The 2016 adidas Colorado Rapids Home Jersey will be available soon at World Soccer Shop.
