Club America has the edge heading into El Clasico this Sunday. But like with any rivalry match, the result is far from a given.
This will be the 220th meeting between the 2 legendary clubs that combined to win 23 Mexican league titles. The yellow/blue of Club America and Red/White stripes of Chivas are easily recognized in Mexico and around the world due to the prestige of the El Clasico. Both clubs are expected to run out at the Estadio Chivas wearing their home jersey.
Las Aguilas are in better form sitting in 4th place on the table, 9 places above Chivas, and Mexican international Oribe Peralta in fine form with 5 goals in the opening 9 matches. And the visitors have recent history on their side. The last time Chivas won a home Clasico match was in April 2011.
But all hope is not lost for ‘the Goats.’ Liga MX is known for parity and upsets. And they won last season’s Clasico at the Estadio Azteca 2-1.
This is the earliest in the season the 2 sides have faced each other since the Apertura 2005 and Clausura 2006 when the fixture list paired them against each other in week 7 of the season.
