The Football Federation of Chile signed an 8-year deal with Nike to be the team’s technical sponsor. The deal is reported to be $7 million per year over the term and better than the offers from current sponsor Puma as well as adidas and Under Armour. It is the first time Nike has provided the official team jersey and apparel for the Chilean national soccer team.
The Nike Swoosh will appear on the team jersey starting after the 2015 Copa America and runs through the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Chile has advanced to the FIFA World Cup finals 9 times and made it to the elimination round in their last 2 appearances in 2014 and 2010. Their best finish was 3rd place when they hosted the tournament in 1962.
La Roja are led by Alexis Sanchez. The 26-year-old is sponsored by Nike and wears the Nike Mercurial Superfly.
The traditional Chilean Kit of red jersey, blue shorts, and white socks was adopted ahead of the 1947 Copa America and has featured since then. The away jersey is usually a white jersey with blue shorts and socks.
Puma was the team sponsor from 2011 through summer of 2015. Puma paid $3 per year for the deal.
