All-action midfielder David Norris is set to land a bumper new deal at Plymouth Argyle in January, ending speculation of a move to Southampton.
Norris, an ever-present for the Pilgrims in the Championship this season, was the subject of a £1million offer from Saints in the summer.
However, Argyle rejected the bid for the 26-year-old, who has made over 200 appearances for the club since joining from Bolton in 2002.
The transfer talk left Norris unsettled at the start of the season but he has since rediscovered his best form, and chairman Paul Stapleton is now planning to reward the Peterborough-born dynamo with an improved contract.
"It's true to say that we turned down offers for him," admitted Stapleton.
"I think David would maybe have liked the opportunity to have at least spoken to them (Southampton) but we didn't want to lose one of our best players. And I have told him that.
"I have said to him we are looking at his deal with our club, which runs out in 20 months.
"I did tell David that whatever happens we would look at his situation seriously in January, with regard to his contract and his pay.
"I also said if anybody came in for him we would tell him about it, but we are not looking for offers for David.
"We think he's a key part of Plymouth Argyle and the way the team is progressing," Stapleton added to the Evening Herald.
