Swedish winger Bojan Djordjic is set to have his contract paid up by Plymouth Argyle after being told he can leave Home Park.
Djordjic has only made 18 starts in the Championship since joining the Pilgrims on a free transfer from Rangers in 2005, having begun his professional career with Manchester United.
The 25-year-old believes he should have been given more of a chance by manager Ian Holloway, who is frustrated that the situation has culminated in Djordjic wanting to part company with Argyle.
"Bojan's future will be elsewhere," Holloway told the Plymouth Evening Herald.
"I'm disappointed, because I don't like losing out on people that I can't get the best out of.
"I sat down with him and had a long chat with him and it will probably be by contract settlement."
Holloway added: "I think he was a fantastic talent that I didn't get the best out of. I don't think the world has seen the best of him yet.
"He's got to think about what he wants to do - it's about that sparkle in your life, or having it, or getting it, and I'm not sure he's got that, being here now."
Holloway fell out with Djordjic soon after becoming Argyle boss last summer but the Serbia-born midfielder worked hard to regain his place in the team, only to be forced out for several months with a fractured cheekbone sustained just before Christmas.
Holloway continued: "I couldn't have asked more from him - he tried everything I did and he responded in the right way.
"He came a lot further than anybody I have worked with before, but I think there's miles to come yet.
"Sometimes, it isn't about ability, it's about how your heart feels and if it's heavy, you're not going to produce your best.
"Believe me, I have tried my best, but maybe it's not enough for him."
