Berbatov Finally Gets His Move
2008-09-02 14:43:43

The transfer of Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United has finally been confirmed.

The Bulgarian international will move to Old Trafford in a deal believed to be worth GBP30.75million as well as including the season-long loaning of United youngster, Frazier Campbell.

Manchester City came close to derailing their fierce rivals deal with a late, big money, bid for the Spurs star but the former Leverkusen player seemed to already have had his heart set on a move to the Red half of Manchester.

Lacking options in attack Sir Alex Ferguson had always said that he was looking to bring a quality striker in, with Berbatov his number on target.

With Louis Saha now departed to Everton Berbatov will take over the number nine shirt at United and will be expecting big things from the 27 year-old in the coming seasons.

Speaking just an hour after the transfer window shut Ferguson said he was obviously delighted to have captured a player he rates so highly.

"This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football. His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I'm sure he will be a popular player with the fans."

With Frazier Campbell going the other way Tottenham now have Darren Bent, Roman Pavlyuchenko and the United youngster as their main attacking options.

Campbell had been linked with both Wigan Athletic and Hull over the summer all offers were continually rejected by United. The youngster is highly rated at United but the club obviously will be hoping that he can gain further Premier League experience in a season at White Hart Lane.

Speaking about his big money move to Manchester Berbatov said he was thrilled to have finally joined the club and looking forward to getting his new career underway.

"Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours in the years to come."
