The owner-elect of Manchester City, Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, anticipates his group's takeover to have the same kind of effect on the club that Roman Abramovich's acquisition had on Chelsea.
Al-Fahim's Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG) will become the new majority shareholders in the club after both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the ownership change.
City's last trophy was won in 1976 when they lifted the League Cup, meanwhile Chelsea have won the Premiership title twice, the FA Cup once and reached the UEFA Champions League final since Abramovich's takeover in 2003.
Al-Fahim wants City to be challenging for trophies in all competitions with his group's help.
"We don't just want Manchester City to be challenging for trophies in England, but also in the Champions League. We want them to be in for every trophy available," he said.
City will face Chelsea at the City of Manchester Stadium on 13 September, which might give them an idea of where they are heading with ADUG as their new owners.
