Aguero Back For Atletico
2008-08-25 15:50:35

Atletico Madrid welcome back star striker Sergio Aguero for Wednesday's vital Champions League clash against Schalke, but the diminutive Argentinian is warning against pinning too much hope on his return.

Atletico have an uphill battle if they are to grace the Champions League group stages after suffering a 1-0 defeat to last season's quarter-finals Schalke in the away leg of their third qualifying round tie.

Aguero was missing for that match due to his Olympic commitments but the 20-year-old will be available to play in this week's return meeting after winning gold in Beijing.

Hopes are high in Madrid that Aguero, who struck 18 league goals for Atletico last season, will be able to turn the tie round for the Rojiblancos, but the striker does not want to be seen as the man with all the answers.

"No, I'm not the saviour," he said after landing in Madrid. "I'm going to give my all, but this is achieved by a team. If things go well for me it will be because I've had the support of my team-mates.

"The Vicente Calderon is going to be full and I hope that our fans don't stop supporting us until the end to help us achieve our goal."

Aguero, who insists he will be in tip-top shape despite his Olympic adventure, admits it is unlikely to be comfortable for Atletico though, saying of Schalke: "They're a very tough opponent because all German teams are strong.

"It's not going to be easy to eliminate them at all, but we have to stay calm and be confident that we can get the win."
