Known by a variety of names that include the Selecció Catalana, Selecció de Barcelona and the Catalan XI, the Catalunya national team represents the autonomous community of Catalonia in Spain. The team is administered by the Catalan Football Federation who have announced a technical sponsor switch from Astore to Pony.
The 2014/15 Catalunya home and away kits were unveiled following the announcement. They will be worn during the ongoing UEFA Regions Cup (a competition for amateur teams representing regions around Europe).
Both kits feature the red and yellow stripes of the Catalan flag, La Senyera, that have been used in the uniforms of clubs from the region such as FC Barcelona and Valencia CF. “CATALUNYA” is proudly printed on their back bottom areas.
The home shirt use traditional soccer jersey vertical stripes that fade to all yellow in the upper chest area to place an emphasis on the Pony logo and FCF crest. It uses a crewneck look with dark blue sleeves.
The Catalunya 14/15 away jersey features a dark blue base with the now popular Y-neck collar. The Senyera is represented via a band on the left front of the kit.
The Catalunya soccer team is not recognized by either FIFA or UEFA and usually plays one to two friendlies per year during La Liga’s winter break. Its last match was a 4-1 win over Cape Verde on December 30th. Eight then FC Barcelona players (including Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba) played for the Catalan team in the meeting.
