Blackburn Rovers signed a 5-year technical partnership with Umbro this week.  The deal will have Umbro outfit the official kits and training gear of the senior and youth teams as well as the club’s leisurewear.

The Football Championship club’s 2016/17 jersey will be unveiled later this summer.

“We are delighted to welcome Umbro back to Rovers as technical kit supplier,” Greg Coar, Head of Commercial & Marketing at Blackburn Rovers, said at the announcement.  “Umbro are building an impressive portfolio of clubs and it will be great to have their famous logo back on the blue-and-white halves.”

“The team at Umbro have shown great respect for our history and tradition, but also have a fresh outlook, which makes it an exciting partnership at the core of the club over the next few years.”

This will be the third time Blackburn have partnered with the Manchester-based apparel company.  The Double Diamond was the team’s original jersey partner from 1974 through 1981.  They also provided team apparel between 2007 and 2013.  Nike was most recently the club’s technical partner.

“Blackburn Rovers’ ‘Arte et Labore’ (‘by skill and hard work’) motto is a great fit with our own values, so we are delighted to have re-established our technical kit partnership with them,” Paul Nugent, VP of global marketing for Umbro, said.  “Both Umbro and Blackburn Rovers have rich histories, however we are looking forward, not back, and aspiring to create new moments for fans to celebrate.”

The Ewood Park club’s halved jersey is iconic in England and around the world.  This look is the only one Blackburn has used in their 141-year history although the side which the blue and white are placed has varied over the years.
