Manchester United is ready to get their pre-season preparations underway and are in the United States turning their attention to their 1st match of the #MUTour in the International Champions Cup with their game against Club America tonight in Seattle. World Soccer Shop Blog caught up with the Red Devils during a recent training session.
Manager Louis van Gaal is organizing the attack. Despite winning the ICC last year, the Dutch tactician was not pleased with the amount of travel and time spent on the tour so has shortened this year’s tour to include 4 games over 13 days with the opening 2 matches all on the west coast and the final match in Chicago.
The Premier League side announced their roster for the tour earlier this week and have the majority of their top players as well as recent signings.
New signing Memphis Depay and Michael Carrick appear to be getting in the U.S. vibe with both players sporting some Elvis style sideburns. They are both in the early stages leading us to believe they may be a special look just for the U.S. fans.
Another new signing, Bastian Schweinsteiger, is also in the States and using the stationary bike to keep his fitness. The former Bayern Munich midfielder will look to be a dominant presence with his new club.
After opening with the Mexican side, the Red Devils face MLS’s San Jose Earthquakes at the Avaya Stadium, San Jose on Tuesday, July 21 then European champions Barcelona at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on July 25 before wrapping the tour up in Chicago against French champions Paris Saint-Germain on July 29.
And the players are ready to get the pre-season started with no doubt an ultimate goal to be prepared to make a run at the 2015/16 Premier League title.
