In an eco-friendly partnership, Bayern Munich, the club’s technical sponsor adidas, and Parley for the Oceans unveiled a limited edition Bayern Munich 2016/17 home jersey made from Parley Ocean plastic. The jersey will be worn by the club against Hoffenheim on Saturday, November 5.
The jersey features a unique look from the 2016/17 Bayern Munich home jersey. The Bayern Parley jersey is solid red and feature the club badge, adidas Performance logo, and front-of-the-jersey sponsor logo in a red made with a water-based print. The v-neck collar includes a neck tape inside the collar with ‘For the Oceans’ printed on it.
The inside of the sleeves include mesh inserts to improve ventilation and the lower left of the jersey includes a Parley/adidas loop label with NFC chip with more information on the cause.
The jersey is made from Ocean Plastic which is made from up-cycled marine plastic pollution collected from the coastal area of the Maldives.
“It’s an honor to go on this journey with adidas and to have the opportunity to wear the adidas x Parley kit on-pitch for the first time,” Bayern Munich midfielder, Xabi Alonso, who grew up on the beaches of Spain, said. “With every second breath we take coming from our oceans, it’s really important that we do what we can do safeguard them. Wearing a kit that is made from recyclable ocean waste is something I’m very happy about as it’s a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about the need to protect and preserve our oceans. I know this is the start of something very special.”
Parley’s goal is to end plastic pollution of the oceans through their Parley A.I.R. (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign) Strategy. They have partnered with adidas in the past to develop technical yarn fibers from plastic waste.
