Barcelona has one of the most iconic and recognizable jerseys in soccer but the Catalan club is rumored to be considering a switch from the traditional vertical stripes to horizontal stripes for next season.  It would be the first time in the team’s 115 year history they had a hooped home jersey.

Catalan newspaper Sport is reporting that club president Josep Maria Bartomeu approved the move and apparel sponsor Nike has presented an initial concept.

The team would return to red shorts as were used in the Champions League winning runs in 2005/06 and 2010/11.

The paper goes on to say that the primary reason behind the move is that sales of this year’s jersey are down.

The home jersey is not the only one getting a facelift.  The idea for the away jersey is for a electric yellow jersey with 4 vertical stripes on the back.
