Mario Balotelli is not one to shy away from the limelight on or off the field and grabbed the headlines with his move from Nike to Puma as his official soccer cleat.  The AC Milan and Italy forward will wear a new Puma silo that is scheduled for a release in early 2014.

Balotelli, however, will not have to wait for the new cleat release.  He was spotted wearing a special ‘Headline’ version against AS Roma earlier in the week and this weekend had an updated ‘Headline’ cleat to showcase in the Milan Derby.

The cleat from the second match had ‘Why Always PUMA?’ in bold red on the side of the cleat.  It was a tribute to one of his biggest headlines ‘Why Always Me?’ that was picked up after the forward revealed a t-shirt with the same question on it after scoring against Manchester United when he was still playing for Manchester City in October 2011.

“This is a great move for me. From the early conversations I had with PUMA it was clear that they understand me, my personality and my ambition,” Balotelli told PUMA. “The product and marketing plans they have developed are very exciting and I will be proud to be associated with everything I have seen. I am sure that the coming years will bring many good things for us all.”

Puma has been re-vamping their line-up of cleats for the last 2+ years.  The new silo will replace the Puma PowerCat.  Super Mario joins a stellar lineup of stars that pull on Puma cleats that include Radamel Falcao, Sergio Aguero, Cesc Fabregas, Marco Reus, Yaya Toure, Thierry Henry and Gianluigi Buffon.

Balotelli was the bright spot for the Rossoneri in the 1-0 loss.  He came close on several attempts in each half.  Inter’s Rodrigo Palacio scored the winner 4 minutes from time.

The World Soccer Shop is scheduled to have a limited number of these exclusive cleats for sale.  Keep on the look-out for them and Get in the Game!
