AZ Alkmaar has become the first Dutch Eredivisie club to wear kits from rapidly growing Baltimore-based sportswear firm Under Armour. The Cheese Farmers are well-known in the U.S. with their connections to U.S. Soccer with the club’s technical director being former U.S. international, Earnie Stewart, as well as being the current team for striker Aron Jóhannsson.
AZ Alkmaar revealed their 2015-16 Under Armour home kit during their first training session ahead of their upcoming domestic and UEFA Champions League runs last week.
The new jersey is in the familiar red of the 1981 and 2009 Eredivisie champions. It uses an Under Armour design that was first seen via the rarely used Tottenham 2014-15 third kit. The 2015 Sao Paulo and Colo Colo home shirts also use the design.
The kit is highlighted by a modern standing collar in black. A white-v-shaped insert is on the inside front of the collar. Black sleeve cuffs and white should flashes further accent the jersey. The inside neck area has the popular AZ motto “Samen Naar Victorie” (Together to Victory) in a cursive font.
White shorts and socks with red accenting complete the new AZ Alkmaar primary uniform.
AZ join the likes of Tottenham Hotspur (England), Sao Paulo FC (Brazil), (Chile), Toluca and Cruz Azul (both Mexico) with UA as their official technical sponsor.
