After a tumultuous 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season that saw them finish 5 points above the relegation zone, Aston Villa FC will be looking for a vast improvement next time round.
Having sent USA goalie Brad Guzan and Netherlands center back Ron Vlaar to the 2014 World Cup, the Villans kicked off their summer activity this week with signing of former England midfielder Joe Cole and the launch of the 2014/15 away kit from Italian company Macron.
Aston Villa’s 14/15 away looks to the club’s past glories for its design. The period in question is 1980 to 1982 when Villa won the last of their seven First Division (now the Premier League) titles, the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) and the European Super Cup.
The white kit with claret pinstripes is based on the Aston Villa 1981/82 away shirt. A definite early 1980s touch is evident in the jersey’s ribbed, pronounced v-neck collar. It is matched with claret shorts and white socks with claret hoops.
Expect to see the Aston Villa 2014/15 Macron away kit in action when manager Paul Lambert and his team travel to Texas for pre-season friendlies against the Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas of MLS.
