As one of the hottest teams of the moment thanks to the recent influx of stars including Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez, João Moutinho, Éric Abidal and Dimitar Berbatov, AS Monaco have caught Nike’s interest and have secured the American giants as the club’s official kit and equipment supplier until 2019.
Monaco will return to the big European scene wearing a Nike-branded version of their iconic red-and-white diagonal halved design after finishing 2nd in Ligue 1 only one year after their promotion back to the French top flight. This new Home Kit is characterized by the simplicity yet quality look Nike has gone for with a lot of their teams in recent years, including a polo collar and completely white sleeves with thick cuffs.
The new Home Shirt also features a redesigned club crest already unveiled at the beginning of the current campaign, although it will now be featured on the shirt for the first time as the team begins the 2014/2015 season. This new crest design, more modern and polished, will now be the boldest part of an overall simple yet effective new home kit from Nike.
The diagonal halved shirt Monaco dates back to the 1960-61 season. The ‘red and whites’ won their first league title that year. This year’s jersey has white sleeves on both arms, similar to the original. Recent home jerseys have featured 1 white sleeve and 1 red sleeve.
A red button-up polo collar is present on the kit as well for an elegant look. White shorts and socks compliment and complete the home kit, with a red stripe on top of the socks.
“AS Monaco are one of the most exciting football clubs in Europe and their ambition to become one of the world’s leading clubs is clear,” said Dermott Cleary, VP / GM of Nike Football. “We look forward to working with them as we continue to grow our position as the No. 1 brand in football.”
“As we look to the future, it is telling of our ambition to welcome Nike as our new partner. This partnership supports our global strategy as we look to grow AS Monaco as one of the world’s leading football clubs and we look forward to working closely with Nike.” said Vadim Vasilyev, Vice President and CEO of AS Monaco.
