Arsenal FC and Puma Football unveiled the Gunners 2016/17 home kit for the 2016/17 on Monday. The jersey features modern and classic elements with inspirations from the managers, players, and historic moments of the 1990’s.
The jersey’s on-field debut for both the senior team and the Arsenal Ladies will be on U.S. soil. Arsene Wenger’s side will wear the jersey when they face the MLS All Stars at Avaya Stadium on July 28th. The Arsenal Ladies, recent FA Women’s Cup champions, will be the first to use don the new shirt, however, when they take on Seattle Reign at Memorial Stadium on Thursday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
The design stays true to the Gunners iconic style with the red body and white sleeves but have some cool interpretations of the look. The red front panel includes solitary stripe running down the center of the jersey in a darker shade of red. The white insert style collar includes black trim and a tribute to the look of the 1992/94 jersey. A white shoulder panel connects the collar to the white sleeves which are longer than usual and have a black detail complimenting the design on the collar.
A stylized heat transfer Gothic font ‘A’ is placed on the back under the collar. The design was used on various crests used between 1949 and 2001 when the current crest was adopted.
Arsenal’s club crest is over the heart, the Puma Leaping Cat logo is over the right chest, and Fly Emirates sponsorship logo is across the front.
The Arsenal 2016/17 home jersey is available at World Soccer Shop.
