Arsenal and Stoke City will be making their Barclays Asia Trophy debuts this summer. The 2 Premier League sides join Everton who played in the 2005 tournament. The biennial tournament, which will be played for the first time in Singapore as part of the city’s 50th anniversary, is the only Premier League affiliated competition played outside of England.
A Singapore Select XI will fill-out the 4-team field with matches scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 and Saturday, July 18 at the National Stadium.
“Arsenal have always been one of the most thrilling teams in the Barclays Premier League: they have some wonderful players and I’m sure they’ll delight their many fans from across Southeast Asia,” Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said while announcing the teams. “Everton under Roberto Martinez continue to play an exciting brand of football, while Stoke City mix flair with a never-say-die attitude. Fans in Singapore should expect our most competitive ever Barclays Asia Trophy.”
