By Hunter York – Jozy Altidore is settling back in to Major League Soccer and getting it done in his adidas adiZero F50’s. The Toronto FC forward knocked in a brace against Orlando City in the 2-0 win and now has 4 goals total on the young 2015 campaign.
The 25-year-old joined the Canadian team in the January transfer window in a swap deal with Sunderland that sent Jermaine Defoe the opposite way. Since returning to MLS, Altidore has primarily worn the Black/Silver Metallic colorway of the popular adiZero F50.
The F50 is his go-to cleat today but Altidore has been known to turn to the other silos in the adidas cleat collection.
Altidore started his professional career with the New York Red Bulls and slowly made a name for himself in his adidas Predator and adiPure cleats. He caught the attention of the U.S. national team and teams from abroad with his 15 goals in 37 appearances for the Big Apple side.
His form earned his a $10 million transfer to Villarreal. He wore the same silos along with the adidas F50 Tunit while with the Yellow Submarine. He spent time on loan with Xerez, Hull City, and Bursapor adding some time in the F50 I, the last F50 Tunit cleat before adidas launched the F50 adiZero silo which he wore in 2010/11
After jumping around Europe and finding it difficult to find his form, Altidore signed with AZ Alkmaar. He played some of his best soccer with the Dutch Eredivisie club scoring 39 goals in 67 matches while sporting the next 2 generations of F50 adiZero cleats.
The Premier League came calling and prompted a $13 million transfer to Sunderland during the 2013 summer transfer window. Only able to find the net 3 times in his 2 seasons at the club, Altidore sported the previous 2 pairs of adiZero F50’s that were prior to the current speed boot offered up by adidas. He especially loved wearing the adiZero in red and the orange Samba Pack adiZero in 2014. He had also been spotted in the Battle Pack F50’s and was also spotted in a pair of the current 11Pro before leaving Sunderland. No doubt trying anything to re-discover his form.
Altidore is hoping to make this season a good one after having 2 seasons to forget in England. With a new start and a new league, Altidore could be set for a great season. One thing is for sure about the American striker; he loves to don the three stripes on his feet.
