adidas unveiled their new soccer cleat silos with the adidas Ace and adidas X set to take the field on June 6 during the UEFA Champions League final. But the revolutionary change was not made overnight and is not just a story that was written on the soccer fields of Europe.
The 3-Stripes had over 100 players wearing tester cleats during the developing of the new cleats including Jozy Altidore and Sacha Kljestan of Major League Soccer. The style of play for the 2 players perfectly aligns with the strength of the individual cleats
Altidore, a lifelong adidas wearer, returned to MLS and Toronto FC in January. He has made an immediate impact for the Canadian club and will be wearing the X15.1. The big forward is known to cause chaos for defenders as his size and speed make him difficult to shutdown.
“I am always looking for an edge on the field competing at the highest level and adidas has delivered a gem of a boot that will continue to help me excel for club and country,” Altidore said of the new cleat.
Altidore was most recently wearing the adidas adiZero F50.
After spending 5 years in Europe with Anderlecht, Kljestan returned to MLS and joined the New York Red Bulls in January. It was a return to the U.S. top flight for the 29-year-old who started his career with Chivas USA in 2006.
Kljestan is more of a controller of the ball from his midfield position. His vision and reading of the game is key in helping him work his magic on the ball to set up his teammates.
“The two most important things for me and my boots is comfort and performance,” Kljestan said of his new cleat. “The new Ace makes me feel comfortable so that I can perform at my very best.”
