Together with the Battle Pack cleats, adidas has also introduced a stunning style of matching goalkeeper gloves for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brasil.
The new adidas Predator Zones were designed taking into account the needs of some of the brand’s best goalkeepers, including including Manuel Neuer, Iker Casillas and Petr Cech. They are a great combination of technology, performance and eye-catching style.
The most noticeable aspect of the globes is the distinctive black and white design pattern similar to the aforementioned Battle Pack boots. A bit of red coloring will help mark the key zones of the glove, including the grip zone and punching zone.
The technology behind these gloves are based around the three zones concept aimed at servicing the performance needs of goalkeepers. These are: a punching zone, designed to match force and flexibility; a grip zone, the centerpiece of the glove to offer the best grip possible when stopping and handling the ball; and an abrasion zone, an insert at the bottom of the palm meant to protect it from damage and wearing.
These new gloves will have their debut as Iker Casillas takes the pitch for the UEFA Champions League Final on May 24th. The Real Madrid and Spanish captain said, “What makes these gloves special is that we, the goalkeepers, have been involved in the design of the gloves at every stage. We were sent a blank glove to mark the areas that were most important to us, so the three zones have been designed with our needs in mind. I am going into the world’s greatest tournament, knowing I am equipped with the best possible gloves. That makes a huge difference.” He will later join the other adidas Goalkeepers in wearing them during this summer’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Frank Weigl, adidas Senior Product Manager of Football Hardware said, “By working alongside goalkeepers we were able to identify the key areas of gloves according to the players who are ultimately going to wear the product in major tournaments. The adidas Predator Zones have gone through an extensive period of on-field testing with amateur and professional goalkeepers across the globe. Through the rounds of testing we managed to perfect a cutting edge design which suited exactly what goalkeepers look for in their gloves. We are confident adidas Predator Zones will be a great success at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brasil and beyond.”
