2014 was a great year for the German national team. Die Mannschaft won their 4th World Cup and adidas announced that they had sold a record number of the official jersey. With ‘more than 3 million shirts’ sold it is double the number sold when Germany hosted the World Cup in 2006 and 10 times more than were sold for South Africa 2010.
“In total, we have sold more than three million shirts (since it was presented in November 2013),” Adidas chief executive officer Herbert Hainer told Focus magazine.
Sales were strong heading into and during the World Cup and were only spurred on when Mario Gotze scored the game winner in the final to make sure a 4th star was added to Germany’s federation badge and official jersey along with the FIFA World Cup winners badge on the chest of the jersey.
